Dermatophyllum secundiflora, Texas Mountain Laurel

A slow-growing, evergreen large shrub/small tree that blooms in early spring with very fragrant, purple blooms. The fragrance is often compared to "grape Kool-Aid." Prefers a well-draining soil and infrequent, deep irrigation events once established. Does best in full sun, but irrigation must be more frequent to establish in its first summer (twice per week). Will do fine in part sun, but blooms will be reduced.
