Frangula caroliniana, Carolina Buckthorn

An Edwards Plateau native understory tree that thrives in partial shade. Berries that ripen in early fall are favored by many bird species, and the tree acts as a larval host to the Snout butterfly. Can mature as short as 10' but can also grow up to 25'.
