Malvaviscus drummondii, 'Big Momma' Turk's Cap

This is a selection of the native Turk's Cap that has a red flower that is larger than the species by a longshot, making it a choice plant for folks with shady gardens, looking to liven them up with butterflies and hummingbirds. The flower becomes a small "apple" that is sought after by birds and small mammals. This deciduous shrub performs best in shade, but can handle more sun with more frequent irrigation. 

This is a great shrub to have with other part-sun rock starts like Inland Sea Oats, River Fern, Lawn Sedge, and Gregg's Mistflower.
