Rhus virens, Evergreen Sumac

Small tree or large shrub with year-round leaf retention, though oddly, not a true evergreen. New foliage has a pink look to it, and leaves will become vibrantly red after cold snaps. Great as a thick privacy hedge if 8' is tall enough. Very beautiful if left to mature with its natural growth habit in a mostly full sun area with good drainage and infrequent irrigation, once established. Feed with a balanced, natural fertilizer in Spring and early Fall for a robust, healthy plant. Berries are beloved by birds, and flowers are a draw for bees.
