Taxodium mucronatum, Montezuma Cypress

A towering tree, native from Central Texas down through Oaxaca Mx. Typically evergreen in the Austin area. Very similar to Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum), but more drought tolerant and without "knees" that can arise in the area adjacent to the trunk (pneumatophores). Water regularly for the first summer, at least twice per week, then the tree will become far less reliant on supplemental irrigation. Popular for bonsai.
