Carex leavenworthii, 'Scott's Turf,' 'Lawn Sedge,' 'Leavenworth's Sedge'

 A beautiful, lush sedge for part-sun to shady conditions that is an excellent alternative to high-input lawngrasses like St. Augustinegrass. Blooms with sprays of seedheads in April, and sporadically throughout the summer. After extensive trials with several locally-available sedges, this one maintained the greenest, fullest texture when exposed to cold, droughty conditions, low fertility soils, and heat. A great alternative to non-native Berkeley Sedge (Carex divulsa). In our opinion, no sedge holds a candle to this species! Mow high in early summer if you want to "refresh."
