Chilopsis linearis, Desert Willow

A slender, upright small tree with high drought tolerance and adaptablity. Slender leaves resemble a willow tree, though these are not related to willows. Pink blooms adorn the tree through the warm season, and particularly in fall. Can tolerate hot, dry locations, and require less supplemental irrigation over time, ultimately becoming self-reliant in normal summers. That being said, it will look nicer and fuller with a deep watering in dry times. Larval host to one moth, and nectar source for butterflies and hummingbirds. Also serves to lightly filter light in sunny spots for underplantings.
