Morella cerifera, Southern Wax Myrtle

A fast-growing shrub whose native range extends into Texas and throughout the southern states. Evergreen, and often used for screening and erosion control. Requires regular irrigation for two growing seasons before becoming quite drought tolerant, but will look better with irrigation on a regular schedule during hot months. Larval host, and berries are popular with many birds and small mammals. Does best in six-plus hours of sun, and is amenable to regular shearing for shape.
